“Bright Eyes have announced the
launch of The Poison Oak Project,
a 501(c)(3) fund where they will be raising
money for local LGBTQ+ organizations
both nationally and in each city
along their US tour route.
They are partnering with PLUS1 and Propeller
to facilitate in-venue fundraising at each show,
as well as an online fundraising element …
The band is currently on a world tour
in support of their album
Five Dice, All Threes
which was released in
September via Dead Oceans.”
“Of the project, Conor Oberst says,
‘Starting today, we are launching
what we are calling the Poison Oak Project.
We will be partnering with PLUS1 and Propeller
to raise money for local LGBTQ+ advocacy
organizations in every city we play
for the rest of our US tour,
as well as for the LGBT
National Help Center nationwide,
in hopes of bringing more awareness
and funding to their important work.
There will also be opportunities to
donate to win merch bundles at each
stop along the upcoming tour.

It is very simple.
Our friends, families and neighbors are
under attack, facing unprecedented
threats to their freedoms and dignity.
As we watch some of the most
vulnerable populations in our society
be dehumanized and terrorized,
we cannot be silent as we witness
this heartbreaking march
towards cruelty and authoritarianism.
While many of us are shocked
by these developments,
it is not without precedent.
History has shown us this playbook before —
scapegoating the marginalized
to distract from deeper failures,
using cruelty as a tool of control,
and forcing people into the shadows
simply for being who they are.
While these challenges may feel overwhelming,
they must be met with unwavering resolve.
This is not a time to disengage —
it is a time to stand together, organize,
and push back against any ideology
that seeks to divide and diminish us.
That is why we are asking you to join
us in demanding equality for our
transgender citizens and an end
to targeted bigotry in all its forms.
We recognize the basic human dignity
of all people on this earth and will
not stand by as a select few attempt to
dismantle and destroy our way of life.
Now is the time to lift each other
up above this tidal wave
of ignorance and hate.
We will walk together,
unafraid, toward brighter days.’”
