Radical Sewing Club
ABOUT

BIO
Hello, my name is Scout (they/them) [pictured]. I founded Radical Sewing Club, which is based in Huntington Park, California in an area known as SELA for South East Los Angeles. I’m 37, nonbinary, and very happily married to the woman of my dreams. We live in a tiny apartment full of thrifted books and knick knacks that fight for room with the treasures we’ve collected throughout our lives. We share a life full of music, art, and adventure with our 11y/o Yorkie named Cinnamon.
INSPIRATION
I grew up going to YMCA summer camp, from the age 6 to 26. It’s exactly like what it looks like in the movies and also way more than that. The biggest lessons I learned from Y Camp were to honor the land we live on, how to be a good example of a good human, and to always be serving my community. What life has taught me is that all you need to serve your community is an excess of Resource. That Resource could be a skill you can share or teach, your time, your money, or maybe access to a physical tangible thing like a ridiculous amount of sewing supplies and fabric. In 2022 I received a massive donation of sewing fabric and supplies. More than I knew what to do with on my own. I was already in a place of personal searching, I wanted to serve my community. I just couldn’t find something that fit ME. But suddenly I had all these supplies, and I already had sewing skills, and I already had teaching skills. Once I combined those, Radical Sewing Club became so clear to me.

"Fast Fashion and Capitalism are
destroying our communities right now.
This isn’t a future problem anymore,
it’s here and now."
- Scout Quiquivix

"Figure out what your excess Resource
is and find a way to give it.
It can be something
as (simple as) helping.
If we each do our part to serve
and change our communities, then
together we can change the world."
